Homopromo was established by James Kemp in 2014 in response to Russian anti gay laws, which prohibited the “promotion of homosexuality”, a draconian measure used by conservative politicians to gain popularity with far right groups, emboldening those who wished to persecute LGBTQ+ in Russia.

The mission was simple, if Russia wouldn’t ‘promote’ homosexuality then we would, through positive protest that filled the world with more glorious gay art, highlighting injustice and foregrounding the issue whilst raising money for gay rights charities.

Homopromo has continued to spread a message of love and tolerance, broadening its remit in successive exhibitions to include a wide variety of LGBTQ+ issues. We are an inclusive organisation and welcome those who wish to collaborate in our quest for a global society free from homophobia and persecution of LGBTQ+ people.
